After reaching a peak of 151.9 million viewers on the popular gaming streaming service Twitch, Fortnite viewership has dropped off by more than 45 million viewers since July, according to stream elements.

This is just one sign that the once mighty cross-platform battle royale titan, could be losing its standing as the most popular game among teenagers. Many of the players I know believe the game was at its height during Season 4. However, when Season 5 came out in July, the game gradually began to lose popularity among those who had played it since its original release.

One of those problems is the SMG (sub-machine gun), which does too much damage to buildings and structures. This causes problems for players who enjoy the build battles. The SMG does so much damage to structures that there is no point in building big structures. Also, the pump shotgun damage was reduced from 90 to 95 per hit to 80 to 85 per hit. Another minor problem is the trap damage was increased from 75 to 150 per hit.

The Season 6 update, released in late September, only made things worse. Players were outraged when Epic Games removed the bounce pads from Fortnite. It makes the game feel slower. Also, players don’t really care about the shadow stones, which allow players to pass through objects for a brief amount of time.

It feels likes Epic Games is focusing too much on what they can add to the game without thought to how it affects the overall experience. Yes, there are younger players who are starting to play the game, but among teenagers, it’s no longer so cool to be obsessed with Fortnite as it was only a year ago.

But season 7 is out now and it is unknown if people think it is better than season 6.
