Following the release of his last album “Austin”, Post Malone revealed that he has talked about all he wants to at the moment and wants to explore more genres of music. He announced that he wanted to go into the country genre. Between the albums, he has gone on many performances like his Superbowl performance where he performed “America the Beautiful” and dropped 2 singles that were well-received. Further encouraging him to commit to a full country album that he named “F-1 Trillion” which was released on August 16th, 2024. Like most other artists, Post Malone released an expanded edition named F-1 Trillion Longbed. This edition comes with 27 tracks spanning over 1 hour and 20 minutes run time, giving the viewer plenty of time to gloss over the catalog and find what they like. Unlike Austin, F-1 Trillion doesn’t have a set story whereas this album is just a bunch of random topics you can find in most country songs.
While I scroll through my playlists, it is clear that I’m no big fan of country music. However, I am a huge fan of Post Malone and his music, no matter what genre he is in at the time. Although Post had made it clear that he was going to make a country album, in 2015 he took to social media saying “WHEN I TURN 30 I’M BECOMING A COUNTRY/FOLK SINGER.” While many claim that it’s a horrible idea for a pop artist to switch to country music and that it shouldn’t be even nearly the same category it’s classified as “pop country” and while it’s not traditional country music it’s what fits Post. It takes the genre he is most known for and merges it with country music so that it isn’t a hard switch for fans.
F-1 Trillion features a few renowned country singers like Tim McGraw, Hank Williams Jr., Morgan Wallen, Blake Shelton, Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, and more. Disc 2, the extra release that came with F-1 Trillion has no features whatsoever. If you like his work where he sings alone and shows off his skills, maybe the second edition is more your speed.
Many people have taken to the media to give their opinions on the album and I’ve never seen a more diverse set of takes. Some claim that he has been rejected from all other genres he has been in, that this will be no different and that he is “Washed”. Many more have nothing but good things to say about the album and even saying that the album is one of the best in his discography. Right after the release date, Spotify released statistics that F-1 Trillion was the top 1 album in the global dispute from the 16th to the 18th. Out of the 10 top songs on the list, 8 of them were from Post Malones F-1 Trillion. It reached the top 1 in the USA for top albums and out of 10 tracks in the USA, it features 9 tracks; only being topped by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s “Die with a Smile”.
For what the album is, I rate it a 6-7 out of 10. Once again it’s not a genre I am a huge fan of but I know many people love it. The way some people I have discussed the album with have had the same opinion, saying “Post has made his money, he’s handled business and now he’s having fun which is just fine.”. It’s a hard turn from his usual music and an even different approach from Austin with a more gloomy tone to a happier, upbeat style and take on this new genre. The album has amassed 4.7 stars on Google reviews and while that’s not a lot of people, the numbers don’t lie. At the end of the day, it’s pop country, so it will turn heads while attracting many people and repulse some diehard country fans.
