2025, a new year means new media! In the anime community, we’ve gotten tons of announcements for upcoming animes that’ll be released this year. But which ones should you keep your eye on? I’ll give you 5 animes to keep on your radar while trying to remain spoiler-free so you’ll have to watch them :).
5. DanDaDan
DanDaDan exploded on the internet worldwide in 2024. People loved the manga and adored the successful anime adaptation. The show is a refreshing one to watch after seeing how many animes stick to a safe blueprint. This story allows anything crazy or stupid to happen, always catching the audience off guard. With the exceeded expectations of the audience, it caused a massive craving for the next season. Season 2 is expected to air in July and cover these 3 arcs; Cursed House, Evil Eye, and Kaiju.
4. Jujutsu Kaisen
For the past seasons, Jujutsu Kaisen has been a rollercoaster of emotions. Will this one be any different? Nope! In this upcoming season, the Culling Games arc will be animated, an arc that’ll lead into the final battle that tore the hearts of thousands. This arc will be a fun one to watch as we get to see new and returning characters fight for the sake of ending the game. As of now, we don’t have a confirmed date for this season’s release. At the earliest, we could see it on screens in the fall.
3. My Hero Academia
This one just makes me sad. My Hero Academia is set to release its final season sometime this year. We don’t have an exact date for its release since the previous season ended only 2-3 months ago. In the season finale, we’ll be seeing the ending and the outcome of the second war that takes place in the season prior, along with a peek at the characters’ future. This series holds a place dear in my heart so I’m sad to see it go again after having the manga end.
2. Chainsaw Man
Chainsaw Man had a successful first season, allowing the series to get a movie adaptation for the upcoming arc. “Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc” will cover, well, the Reze Arc. Many fans are excited for this movie to release because this arc is an important event for the main character, Denjis, character development. The movie will introduce a great character onto the big screen, along with a stunning battle and beautiful animation. There’s no set release date as of now, but if I had to guess; I’d say late summer/fall. Reze’s a cutie patootie :).
Honorable mentions
Demon Slayer
Demon Slayer, an anime that is praised for its absolutely stunning animation, will be brought to movie theaters one last time late this year. This film will be the final movie for the franchise after having several recap films for the seasons prior. The Infinity Castle will show the final battle between the demon slayers and the demon king. We’ll be seeing intense fights and backstories while experiencing heartbreak you’ve never felt before. If you have not seen the trailer, I cannot recommend it enough. The animation is beautiful and is just straight-up jaw-dropping.
The Apothecary Diaries
The Apothecary Diaries, I love this series so much. The plot is something that isn’t done very often and yet still manages to keep the audience entertained. MaoMao is a great main character, she’s smart, observant, and wouldn’t you know? She’s an apothecary! As of now season 2 is already airing and will have 24 episodes total. As the season progresses we’ll follow MaoMao as she solves mysteries in the Imperial Palace while being hassled by an eunuch named Jinshi.
1. One Piece
Yay, One Piece. Egghead Part-2 will have the remainder of the Egghead arc animated. Fans are excited to explore the illegal work of Dr. Vegapunk and the discovery he’s made regarding the series’s mysterious “void century” but, the World Government won’t let that happen. Sending one of the five elders Saturn and Admiral Kizaru, they’re ordered to stop the Straw Hat crew. Join the Straw Hats to see if they will prevail against the World Government’s attempts to thwart them, Egghead Part-2 releases on April 6th in Japan.
