Students share their experiences catching Covid-19

Many students at Akins have either known someone who has caught COVID-19 or have caught it themselves.

The Eagle’s Eye interviewed two people who have recently tested positive and have since recovered fully. They shared what it was like and how they dealt with the virus.

EE: When did you first realize that you wanted to get tested for Covid-19?
MR: “I started to feel a little weird and I wasn’t feeling myself, that’s when I knew I needed to get tested.”
EE: Did you have any symptoms? If so, what were they?
MR: “I couldn’t smell or taste, I felt like I was really sick and I had a cold.”
EE: What was your reaction when you got the positive test result?
MR: ”I was really scared because I’ve never had it before, I just knew I had to stay away from people.”
EE: How did you decide how to handle the result?

MR: ”I went and got tested at the drive-thru clinics and when I got my results I quarantined on my own.”
EE: Did the symptoms get worse? Did you feel bad?
MR: ”It felt bad in my first two days then I started getting better.”
EE: Do you know where you caught it?
MR: “No I never found out but, wear your mask because you never know.”
EE: How long did you quarantine for?
MR: “I quarantined for 7-8 days.”
EE: Did people around you quarantine, too? Did anyone else in your circle catch COVID?
MR: “No I was the only one that caught it in my family and in my circle.”
EE: How did the positive test/quarantining affect your work/school life?
MR: ”Since I got tested for COVID-19 I had to start working from home.”

EE: When did you first realize that you wanted to get tested for Covid-19?
HM: “I was hooping and I started to get dizzy with a headache, I wasn’t feeling myself that’s when I knew I had to get tested just to make sure.”
EE: Did you have any symptoms? If so, what were they?
HM: ”I couldn’t smell or taste it felt like I wasn’t myself.”
EE: What was your reaction when you got the positive test result?
HM: “I was shaking and I knew I needed to get better and beat this COVID-19 virus.”
EE: How did you decide how to handle the result?
HM: “I handled it with my doctor, he tested me and told me to quarantine for 10-12 days.”
EE: Did the symptoms get worse? Did you feel bad?
HM: “My symptoms lasted for about 2 weeks and yes I felt bad just like the cold.”
EE: Do you know where you caught it?
HM: “Yes I actually caught it when I was at my family’s house in Houston. Two of them tested positive for it.”

EE: How long did you quarantine for?

HM: “I quarantined for 10-12 days”
EE: “Did people around you quarantine, too? Did anyone else in your circle catch COVID?
HM: “I actually quarantined with my Dad because we both caught it in Houston.”
EE: How did the positive test/quarantining affect your work/school life?
HM: “I was already doing online school, so nothing really changed.”
