You just realized the holidays are coming faster than you thought and all of a sudden you need an appetizer for a potluck and decide to make deviled eggs because you already have most of the ingredients. But where does the deviled part of the deviled egg really come from?
According to Alto-Hartley’s website in the article Why Are They Called Deviled Eggs? “The term deviled egg comes from an 18th-century culinary term that the Oxford English Dictionary originally used to describe a fried or boiled dish that was highly seasoned. and this was eventually used to also include spicy, condiment-filled dishes, as well. It was eventually used to describe eggs.”

- Get a pot of water with enough water to fully submerge the eggs
- Then bring to a boil
- Then shut off the heat

- Then increase the heat to high and set a timer for 14 minutes
- While the timer is going create an ice water bath again big enough to submerge the eggs
- When the timer rings put the eggs in the ice bath until fully cooled
- After that peel the eggs and the easiest way to do that is to tap it with the back of the spoon everywhere just enough to crack the shell then turn on the water and roll it between the palms of your hands until you notice a flap the flap you should notice is where the shell starts coming off the egg opening then turn off the water and peel
- Then hold the egg upright and should have the point upright
- Then slice down the point not across the body
- Scoop out the yolk with a spoon and place the yolk in a bowl
- Mash the yolks with the mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, salt, pepper, and chopped bacon
- You could either spoon it back into the egg or pipe it to make it look nicer
- Top with paprika
