Pencils and pens scribbling, rewriting, the stress, the extra credit all for the ACC classes this summer being offered to sophomores for free.
To be eligible for these classes students have to constantly have high grades throughout the year and a high GPA.
Passing grades every six weeks, acceptable scores on projects and six weeks test are the essential needs for the eligibility for the classes.
Most sophomores say they don’t even know about this opportunity for these classes.
“No one has even mentioned it,” sophomore Anna Becerra said “I only heard it at the assembly once in the beginning of the school year, I wish teachers would remind us and push us to work harder for this.”
Some students claim that teachers don’t seem to be pushing students to really go after this opportunity, meaning no students are going to try to work harder.
Sophomore Alexis Cruz who is interested in taking these classes has heard nothing about them.
“No, no teachers mention anything to us, I don’t even know the requirements to be eligible, and I don’t think many students are even going to be able to do this.” Cruz said.
Counselors are mainly in charge with the classes we choose, or graduation plan and how to make them work together, while us on the other hand choose our classes.
“Students aren’t stepping up to the plate how they should,” Becerra said.
Students haven’t been informed with more detail about the ACC classes.
“I know nothing about it, all I know is that it’s in the summer, but I really would want to do it, Cruz said. I just don’t know where to start, but I think it’s a great opportunity for us sophomores, it’s two years of college under your belt, who wouldn’t want to do it.”
Counselors work extremely hard to help us succeed in high school and get us these amazing opportunities.
“I don’t think counselors have gotten the chance to tell students more about the classes, it’s also the students, no one seems to care one way or the other, there’s that handful that do, but most students just like to slack off and they’re just lazy,” Becerra said.
Many sophomores say that teachers and students need to step up their game and get to work this year, everyone wants to get somewhere and to do that one has to push one another to work to one’s full potential to get amazing opportunities like these more often.
“We need a wake up call, time’s running out to really get ahead,” Cruz said.
Sophomore Kourtney Herrera had another way of looking at it.
“I think it’s going to be hard because you’re adding a college education, but people who want to do it will be willing to make it work but I honestly haven’t seen anyone excited about these classes but me,” Herrera said
Students are in charge of doing good in class and succeeding on their own, yet counselors are in charge of planning our classes and making sure it works.
“I’ve been pushing myself because I’m scared for those years to come but I want the experience so I’ll work for it,” Herrera said.
Many students say not many sophomores will make it to be eligible but those who try and really want it will succeed.
“I think it’s a great opportunity to take advantage of the classes being provided that can be beneficial in the long run because I personally think it will jump start our college career or at least get us thinking beforehand,” sophomore Cierra Montoya said.
Other students say that it could be that students are scared for the college experience or that they’re slacking on work.
