With the holidays and cold weather approaching many people in Austin are getting ready for delicious food and warm attire, however there are many people in Austin and around the state of Texas that are not as privileged to eat holiday dinner or have warm clothes during the cold winter.
Akins high school will be hosting their annual canned food drive. Students and staff can donate non-perishable foods and clothes. The deadline for the drive ends Nov. 30th.
In 2010, Akins ranked near the top in the county for most canned food collected.
All donations can be dropped off in Room 314. Donors earn a raffle ticket with every 10 items of food or every jacket they donate. The raffle is for a Chick-Fil-A or Target gift card.
