Akins hosted the YMCA Youth & Government District Conference on Nov. 16, bringing 20 schools from Central Texas to compete in debate and government competitions.
This program allows middle and high school students to understand more about government and its processes. Over 400 students from Central Texas attended the conference.
Senior Emmanuel Sanchez-Portillo earned first place as a judge for Trial Court, and the senior Practicum Mock Trial team placed second. These seniors worked hard and their hard practice paid off.
Juniors Rami Kashakhi and Carter Penwell advanced to the state-level legislative competition. Kashakhi will participate in the House and Penwell will be in Hyde House. This was their first time in this competition.
