Lana Del Rey’s new single is buzzing with recognition after being released on February 18, 2017.

Tragedy Before Release

Some people may look at this as a tragedy and some people may not. Regardless of what people think, the events before “Love” was released were bad. Maybe even more to Del Rey herself. Although she stated that it was okay that the song leaked, I’m pretty sure it broke her a little. To work on something so hard and then to find out someone leaked your music, it would seem horrible honestly. “Love” leaked the morning of February 18th and surfaced the web quickly. Del Rey decided to release her new single hours later even though it had leaked that morning.

Musical Direction of “Love”

After nearly two years of producing the new album, we get a new song that is pretty similar to her first and fourth album, Born To Die and Honeymoon. The iconic vibes from Born To Die (debut album) and the musical instrumental from Honeymoon (fourth album) mash up to make a dreamy track. The start of the song starts with a soft guitar while Del Rey’s vocals make the melody more intensifying.

The pre-chorus introduces a drum type of beat along with weird-sounding production in the background and that signature 50s\60s style that Del Rey is known for. The bridge gives listeners a dreamy, psychedelic feeling while Del Rey sings “don’t worry baby.” The ending of the song is the same as the bridge except there’s a certain feeling that makes it sound hopeful and happy, which is hard to find in a lot of Del Rey’s songs. For some people at least.

Lyrical Analysis

Del Rey is known for those “heart-tugging,” love lyrics that are some what dramatic at times but yet fit Del Rey’s style so brilliantly but on “Love,” her lyrics are hopeful in a way that it makes you feel calm. “Look at you kids with your vintage music,” Del Rey sings.

This might give listeners a thought: Who is she talking about? Well, she’s talking about her fans and how they listen to her vintage-like music. This is probably the first time that Del Rey has stepped out of her writing technique although some parts of that song have those classic Del Rey lyrics. In a recent interview, she has stated that the song “Love” is for her fans. How sweet is that?

Music Video Analysis

The music video for “Love” is beyond beautiful. The imagery and the actors and actresses, it’s mesmerizing. Del Rey released the music video on February 20, 2017. Before releasing, Del Rey live streamed on Instagram and talked to fans about the music video and how much work was put into it. The imagery of the planets and stars is something out of a sci-fi film.

VEVO Lana Del Rey

The actors and actresses in the video are seen having fun, floating through space in cars while gazing at nearby planets, eating ice cream, and just simply having a good time. Del Rey sings on the moon with a band behind her. In the beginning of the music video, most scenes are black and white while Del Rey sways from side to side which looks like something out of the 60s.

Right before the second chorus starts, there’s a close up of one of Del Rey’s eyes and the color is introduced along with a planet and stars in the sky. Towards the end of the video the actors and actresses are seen gazing up at the sky while an eclipse is ending and the sunshine is seen forming on the actors and actresses faces. The last scene shows Del Rey looking up at the stars while the video blacks out.
