Spooky Season is upon us, my friends, and with that comes one of my personal favorite pastimes, Watching Halloween movies.
Here’s a small list of Halloween movies (in no particular order) to watch during this time of orange leaves and breezy weather.
The Shining
The Stephen King Classic The Shining is one of his most popular creations with IT slightly above it. This movie is a handful with its amazing cinematography and set designs alongside Jack Nicholson’s amazing performance. The runtime is a little long but the slow burn pays off by the credits leaving you wanting more.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Killer Klowns from outer space made in 1988 has a dedicated cult following and is also one of my personal favorites. I really like this film for a handful of reasons including its cheesy 80s comedy, its practical effects and not so good CGI, and the fact that it has the sickest intro guitar riff in all of horror movies.
Evil Dead Rise
As the newest installment in the Evil Dead franchise. Evil Dead Rise does a great job of focusing on the gore that previous movies were too shy to show. In combination with the story about a family’s differences and how they bond together, Evil Dead Rise Sets a good path for possible future installments of the franchise.
The Lighthouse
A24s film The Lighthouse in 2019 is one of, if not my favorite A24 films of all time. The whole movie is something that needs to be watched twice to fully grasp the art of it all, its black and white color grading and its vintage aspect ratio helps with the creepy aspect alongside the great writing and great acting from Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe.
Ghostbusters
1984s Ghostbusters is one of the most popular Halloween movies of all time with multiple follow ups, some worse than others. This movie provides comedy, a great soundtrack, and practical effects that still hold up today. Not to mention how sick a giant Stay Puft marshmallow man would be to fight.
