From the very first episode, the Amazon Prime series Invincible has been anything but predictable.
With its bloody and gory fights and the sensitive topics included in the storylines, the series features deep character development and a beautiful superhero plot.
Invincible is an animated series centered around a teenager named Mark Grayson, who happens to be the son of the heroic figure and protector of Earth, Omni Man, or, as his family and friends know him, Nolan Grayson. When he is not off somewhere battling bad guys, Nolan lives with his beautiful wife Debbie and Mark in what appears to be an average suburban home.
In the first episode, they appear to be a regular family with a super dad, until Mark finds out his powers have kicked in. That’s when things take a sinister turn as his father reveals to Mark his true intentions for what he wants to do on Earth.
We find out that there is a sinister and dominant species known as Viltrumites, and Nolan happens to be there on a mission to be accepted into human society and take it over to be ready for conquering by the Viltrumite race. Viltrumites are known as the most powerful species in the universe, or at least some of the strongest.
As Mark is creating his superhero Identity “Invincible,” Nolan recognizes that this is the time to begin the conquering of Earth. Mark, a character we later learn is sympathetic, attempts to fight his dad, who beats him badly before realizing how soft he has gotten. We see this as Mark even feels sympathy after beating his dad, and even himself getting accustomed to human life, he leaves Earth.
After the big fright between Mark and his dad, he has to adjust to knowing his father hurt the people of Earth so much with his rampage. Mark graduates from high school and begins his college years, with conflicting feelings of still being a superhero and boyfriend to a human woman.
He develops a lot, getting stronger thanks to various encounters he has with powerful villains. Eventually, we learn a lot more about the intergalactic beings who are against these Viltrumites, who created something referred to as the scourge virus that killed a lot of them.
But as all this happens, Mark is summoned to go to another planet to help, but comes to find out it is his dad who summoned him. Mark finds out he has a baby brother from a civilization of bug huminoids who progress and grow at fast rates; meaning the lifespan of their people there are like a month or something, they learn at a fast rate also do to this so short lifespan, and fast adulting, so once mark makes it there he goes through a bunch of emotions.
But soon is followed by combat from Viltrumites who have located Mark as they found out he is not doing his mission to conquer Earth. which leads to harm to the people, but they saved Mark’s brother, but Mark’s dad is captured and is going to be punished by death.
In the new season Mark is getting stronger but it starts changing to a multiverse as now we see a new character who blames mark for the things that happened between the fight with his dad, comes to light and frankly he is anti invincible, this guy is hated by a lot of fans as we can see that Mark tried to stop his dad to the best of abilities meanwhile he is going out his way to hurt someone who was trying to do the right thing.
Also, for context, he lost loved ones from the Mark vs his dad incident, so I guess this is where his anger comes from, but it isn’t Mark’s fault, but he is taken care of, then ironically shortly after. Variants of Mark come to earth causing absolute chaos come thanks to an old past enemy, Angstromm, who is, btw, from a completely different universe where invincible is evil but chooses to take his anger out on this invincible who is not evil?
Honestly, the villains are genuinely annoying and deranged with little to any logic behind their hatred for Mark, but eh. But we have all these Marks who are maybe a little weaker and others who are stronger than the current Mark, there are 16 of these Marks, and also I want to mention there are other superheroes and characters in this storyline, so the fight against these variants from other universes isn’t single-handed.
Though I wouldn’t consider it a win, some managed to kill some Mark variants. Others, such as Rex Splode (the Greatest character in fiction), sacrifice their life to kill one of the variants; his powers are in his name, as he went out in a bang, some would say. But as we conclude, roughly half of the Marks are neutralized not after causing damage, of course, with the other half living.
But since they all came with something they were gonna gain from Angstrom in return, once they found out they would not be receiving such things, they attempted to attack Angstrom, who neutralized them all by opening portals and placing them into completely different universes. But he ends up leaving as all the commotion that happened was really to make people hate invincible more than they could’ve already had by a bunch of evil people running around with his face doing evil and also he wanted them to kill Mark but he eventually just backed out as he seen it just wasn’t working.
Things take a turn for the worse for Mark shortly after he recovers. Almost immediately, he is confronted by a Viltrumite warrior named Conquest, who is there not just to punish Mark, but primarily to engage him in battle. This sadistic warrior revels in every moment of their fight, even bringing Mark’s younger brother into the fray, who is quickly overpowered despite being only around 13 years old in terms of physical maturity, though technically, he is only about a year old.
And also I didn’t mention Eve she has potential to be the strongest in this series if she utilizes her powers correctly, and yea we see her appear as she wakes from the damage she took from the Invincible war and arrives to getting completely crumbled as well, but her powers are frankly interesting as she nears death she can unlocks powers that allow her to rearrange atoms and all type of mind blowing stuff. The scientists who designed her powers included a mental block that prevents her from using this power too often, so she can’t abuse it. She can’t rearrange atoms within someone’s body and probably kill them, sadly, at least not without staring death in the eyes.
There is a whole separate show to watch on Amazon Prime to learn about her more in depth. Eve is lovely character, I must say, but frankly Mark and Conquest are having this battle and we can tell Conquest is holding his punches a bit to savor this fight but eventually Eve taps into her powers in which she removes her mental block as she almost died and was able to rebuild her whole body to perfect health and unleashes a attack that neutralizes conquest enough so mark can finish the job. There are more interesting things about Eve’s and when she rebuilds her body that will be touched on or hinted at in later seasons, but yeah, that’s all for now I suppose. This is a rough recap of all the stuff leading up to Season 3.
Yes, I left out a lot of interesting stuff and characters, and Guardians of the Globes or Allen the Alien, this more so focused on Invincible as a character, as the story revolves around him, but there is a lot of stuff at play. Invincible in the future seasons will get nothing but more interesting as we have characters such as Anissa a Viltrumite who we will see.
Allen is creeping into spotlight more, and some intersting characters will have to be faced with strength, also revealing information about the lineage of Mark and his father, but with all this in store Invincible fans are on their feet waiting for the expected release of season 4 sometime on 2026 probably early or middle of year. Invincible is about the story of a boy, Mark, who grows as a character, gets stronger, and frankly gets spanked by someone every other episode, but gets back up and handles business whenever he is needed; that’s what it means to be “invincible.”
