There are many studios out there that publish amazing things but go unnoticed due to triple-AAA studios taking the limelight. With this article, I aim to bring some of those hidden gems to center stage with my Top 5 Indie Games You Haven’t Heard About.

Hollow Knight

Hollow Knight is a beautiful 2D Metroidvania platformer with a deep story. Published on February 24, 2017, by Team Cherry, you play as The Knight, a bug with unknown origins who awoke in the ancient kingdom of Hallownest. As you traverse and battle your way through the ruins of Hallownest, meeting other bugs and fighting those who have been corrupted. You find your purpose and aim to become the king of Hallownest to fulfill that purpose. Battling your way through bosses and enemies alike you make your way to the old king to claim his title. The game is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One for $14.99.

Dead Cells is an extremely difficult 2D side-scrolling action game created by Motion Twin.  You play as The Beheaded, a mysterious creature capable of taking control of dead bodies on an unnamed island. The Beheaded aims to hunt and kill the King Of The Hand in hopes that something may change on the island. The game was released on May 10, 2017, and it is a blast. There is an enormous amount of replayability and tons of unique areas and enemies to hack and slash your way through. Dead Cells still receives updates and DLC to this day, the latest of which is the “The Queen and the Sea” DLC featuring new areas, bosses, enemies, and weapons to explore.

Slay The Spire is a roguelike card game with surprising depth and replayability. You have a host of characters to play, each with their own unique playstyles and advantages. Maneuver your way through the floors of the spire to the top and defeat the heart. The game is also host to a great modding community, which adds many great additions to the game. Slay the Spire is created by Mega Crit Games and was published on Jan 23, 2019. It is available on PC for $24.99
