Social Apps Change with big moments Over 10 Years

Social Media – Social media apps change very dramatically in the past 10 years. Some apps got so popular but then slowly die and the new app blows up. Social media is most affecting the young teens and teens is the one who has made the changed in social media now a day. Teens use social media daily to help them communicate with more confidence and for business users or to communicate and share an idea from afar distance. 

Instagram

Instagram, a photo/video sharing and social media service, launches. October 6, 2010. Instagram was also created by facebook and is used mostly by the younger generation since the belief was facebook was created back in 2004 so it belongs to the older generation. Instagram has a total of 500 million daily active users, brands are quickly recognizing the need to have a presence on Instagram.

Snapchat

Snapchat, a photo/video sharing, and social media service launch in July 2011. Many users didn’t use Snapchat at first when it was first released. After many updates, Snapchat brings features with filters and being able to save text with being able to share location making Snapchat more interesting to many young teens now a day. As of Q4 of 2018, the app had approximately 186 million daily active users. This is a slight drop from the Q2 numbers as there were 188 million daily active users then. And in Q1 of 2018, there were 191 million daily active Snapchat users. 

Vine

Vine, short-form video hosting service where users shared six-second-long, looping video clips. Many users use it to create great loops content then funny short videos attract young teens to Vine. Later Vine was shut down on January 17, 2017. The app was removed but many videos from Vine are now uploaded to Youtube. Last data show Vine has over 200 million active monthly users, according to Venture Beat, and the platform’s engaged audiences watch more than 1.5 billion “loops. 

Music.ly

Music.ly users create and share short lip-sync videos. Musical.ly was a social media service headquartered in Shanghai with an office in Santa Monica, California. Musical.ly has grown to more than 90 million users globally, up from 10 million last year. ByteDance, owners of the app TikTok, bought musical.ly Inc on November 9, 2017, and combined the two apps into a single app named TikTok on August 2, 2018. Now Tik Tok is used worldwide.

Discord

Discord a free instant messaging and video/voice calling service (VoIP) designed for the gaming community. Discord allows users to listen to Youtube while communicating during playing games. They can post videos and photo just like all other social media apps. But they are better with allowing peoples to lock certain rooms for certain peoples allowing them to create some privacy for their own. Room admin could mute certain peoples which Facebook and Instagram don’t support.

Youtube

Youtube is now a big page for students’ lessons and entertainment a day. Youtube added many features such as live streaming, posting a story on your channel or a written thought on your community tab. Adsense is a unit of Google that enables Google to place ads on your videos and you are hence, been paid for the videos that you uploaded. Also, youtube has is now allowing Youtuber to communicate with each other over Youtube and get to share content. 

Google+

Google+ shuts down in April 2019 due to low user engagement and an API flaw. Google tries to compete in the social media paste but fail to keep up because not many peoples care about Google since Facebook and Instagram have come ahead and it is a tough competition for Google+. Teens believed that Google is being used to sign in to youtube and they could communicate through youtube so what’s the point of also using google+. 

Twitter

Twitter is believed to be an old social media and it is just mostly for newsreader which many teens are not interested in. It is believed to be made for the old peoples. Twitter claimed 321 million monthly users, down 9 million, or more than 2 percent from the same time last year. Current chairman Jack Dorsey holds about a 4.7% equity stake, not including options, according to the S-1. The company’s first CEO and the originator of the basic idea of Twitter, Dorsey owns about 22.2 million shares that are worth a total of more than $439 million.

Reddit

Reddit allows peoples to share their passion in their favorite books, movies, video game, sport, and music. This is mostly used by a teen because this is where teens find a post that is relevant to themselves. Reddit allows peoples to use night mode which everyone wanted and allowing peoples to join the discussion and help others discuss. It is believed to be safe and is free for everyone to find a community they are in.

Kik

Kik released on October 19, 2010. Kik wasn’t yet known until the year of 2012 and was widely used for gamer before discord was released. Kik doesn’t support listening to music like discord but mostly just text toward each other. Later Kik goes through a big change after discord was released in 2015 and many peoples leave Kik because they receive stranger text which sends link and scam young teen to click on making the user feel unsafe using the app.
