Austin ISD is rolling out new cafeteria food options this year, featuring fresh ingredients from local sources, chef-designed recipes and a rotating menu with new offerings.
Some of the new options include:
- Herb Toasted Ham & Cheese Sandwich – new scratch-made item featured on the Breakfast in the Classroom menu.
- Veggie & Barbacoa Tacos – recipes from the Austin ISD Nacho Average Food Truck, featured on the rotating Taco Tuesday menu along with Carnitas & Fish Tacos.
- Vetri Salad – New menu item, recipe developed by James Beard Award-winning Chef Marc Vetri, of Pizzeria Vetri, a new Austin restaurant.
- Fiesta Bowl – Example of the Global Cuisine available on the Made to Order Fiesta line. A Noodles line will be a new addition this school year featuring more Made to Order options.
The Eagle’s Eye had the chance to samples the items that will be featured in the new menu.

AISD Food Service needs to provide vegan choices (and I don’t mean an iceberg lettuce salad, with a few carrot shavings; lame!).
