Coffee is a beverage brewed or roasted from coffee beans. It is, perhaps, one of the world’s most consumed and loved drinks. It can be mixed with milk or water, iced or hot, caramel or vanilla, and much more. Colombian coffee is famous because Colombia is known for producing one of the best coffees in the world. It is even rude in Venezuela to say no to a cup of coffee offered by a host.
Drinking freshly brewed coffee on a cold morning at the foot of a mountain is one of my childhood memories. Because I am a coffee lover and my top choice is the café con leche, I wanted to list some of the best cafes or coffee shops I have found and tried here in South Austin.
1. The Hive
From coffee to catering, The Hive is a locally woman-owned business at Menchaca Rd. Yet coffee and pastries aren’t the only things they do. They also host events for different organizations, such as Goat Shenanigans (yoga with goats) and bingo nights, so you can entertain yourself while drinking your beverage.
They also have a playground and lounging area outside their building so you can enjoy your coffee while being under the sun.

2. Café Crème
What is better than drinking a cup of coffee with a crepe? I don’t know. Café Crème offers a wide variety of coffees, including a Vietnamese coffee called Cafe Sua Da, which is sweet yet strong. They also have a selection of crepes and salads to accompany your coffee.
They have conference rooms, and their inside is perfect for working, reading, or enjoying a relaxing evening. If you are looking for a place to enjoy with your pet while drinking some coffee, stop looking! Café Crème is next to a dog-friendly patio.

3. Maaribu
Do you want to get some decorations for your house while drinking coffee? Good news, Maaribu is a small business that sells decor, bedding, and furniture for your home. In addition, they also have a cafe inside their building that offers different varieties of beverages and treats.
However, they sell more than just different types of drinks; they also sell wellness beverages. Some of their featured beverages are Immortality Motcha and Blue Majik Oatchata. Their treats menu offers carrot cupcakes, golden spice sandwich cookies, and date walnut pumpkin loaves.

4. Café No Sé
Imagine walking by South Congress. The vibe and the music are to your liking, but it is lunchtime and you haven’t eaten anything all day. In that case, you should stop by Cafe No Se.
They serve coffee, beverages, and dishes with lots of personality. All their foods are freshly made and have different menus throughout the day, so you have other selections whenever you go.
This location is perfect for hanging out with friends and exploring different stores after eating.

5. San Ginés
Chocolateria San Ginés is a Spanish restaurant that recently opened its doors on November 15th at South Lamar. Although it is called a restaurant, it also has a great variety of coffee and small bites to pass brunch with friends or enjoy a sweet treat on an afternoon in an open space.
Its churros are its menu’s spotlight. Churros, which are native to Spain and Portugal, are served with a sprinkle of sugar and a cup of melted chocolate for dipping. Most of their small plates are in Spanish and are native to Spain. Some of them are Gambas al Ajillo and Patatas Bravas.
There are only two San Ginés branches in the United States: one in Florida and the other in Austin, so you have to go and check it out.
