With every new baseball season, there comes a new team, and every new team needs leaders to guide and motivate it.
Colin Drucker and Cody Crank, staff writers for The Eagle’s Eye, interviewed the team’s two captains David Cisneros, catcher, and Ryan Resendez, shortstop. Both of the players had been on varsity since freshman year, and now, they are playing their final games as Akins Eagles.
David Cisneros, Catcher
Just what does the team improve on the season?
I feel like the team has improved on team chemistry, which is important on and off the field. And I feel like team chemistry has led us to some good wins and some good moments this year.
What have you done better this year than in past years?
I think doing the little things right, like showing up on time and wearing the right things. And just coming to practice with a focus mentality was one thing.
What is one thing we struggle to do as a team?
Sometimes during the game, we struggled to get things rolling consistently. We’ll have a couple of hits here and there but nothing consistent sometimes.
What is the best quality?
I would say our best quality as a team would have to be our defense. And the starting pitching. You have two good guys who are our main starters, they lights out every night. So I would say that.
How many games do you see the team winning this year?
I think we’re pretty early in the season. I think we can pull out six wins in the district this year.
What do you think your strengths are as a player?
I think my strengths as a player are being able to help the pitching staff and to be able to guide them to help them have their best out and then just to be somebody full of information.
Do you have any personal goals you want to accomplish this year as a player?
Just being more consistent on the field. Again, that’s like a whole that’s like a whole team goal but I guess it started has to start somewhere.
What are your goals for the team this year?
To be able to capitalize on the close games and to pull those games out and win those games.
Ryan Resendez, Shortstop
What has the team improved on the season?
I think the team has improved on the team chemistry overall, in the way we execute games.
we improved on just overall competitiveness, our games work.
What have we done better this year than in past years?
We’ve been a lot more competitive in the last year in games. Staying in I’m keeping it in since everybody executes when they need to.
What is one thing we struggle with as a team?
I think we struggle a lot with like, staying down whenever we are down, and then losing the momentum.
What is our best quality as a team?
Our chemistry because we’re all really good friends with each other. We all know how we play. And we all just know how like our instance he is within baseball and how much we care.
How many games do you see us winning this season?
Decent six.
What do you think your strengths are as a player?
I would say leadership and just overall being very aggressive whenever I’m playing in giving him all.
Do you have any personal goals to accomplish this year as a player?
Yeah, I want to get First Team All-District I want to make playoffs and have a good year overall.
Last question, what is your goal for the team this season?
I want the team to be able to make playoffs and for us to be able to experience the playoff environment.
