Call of Duty: WWII returns franchise to its roots with mixed results

Blaze Hale, Staff Writer

Call of Duty WWII is taking a step back from the newer installments in the series and going back to the time of Call of Duty: World at War, where there was less futuristic technology and weaponry.

Now that I have played the game here is what I think about this edition of the series the game really takes in perspective what World War II was — a time of war and death in the battlefield, and with the upgraded graphics engine the game looks super realistic.

Graphics Rating: 10 out of 10

The graphics of this game make it seem very realistic and beautiful to play, it gives you a great sense of immersion the graphics engine is amazing it doesn’t take up much GPU for its quality. I give it this rating because for it’s quality and the amount of GPU usage it’s worth the purchase.

Plot: 9 out of 10

During some of the missions, I felt as if I was in the game. I experienced some of the horrors of the battlefield first-hand such as having to drag the main character’s best friend while he is bleeding out and defending him against the German soldiers who are hunting the allies down. Another intense scene is when the character is trying to hold out against Nazi soldiers who have surrounded you and your squad while waiting for my reinforcements.

Overall, I felt like the game does really well to capture the horrors of World War II while also keeping the game very engaging. The game was so engaging I felt as if I was my character fighting in the war and all of the allies dying by me were my comrades. Although the replay value is very little in the campaign unless you want to get 100% completion rate

Campaign Rating: 4 out of 10

While the plot was good, I felt the campaign was very short as well as being quite difficult to advance at times with some of the German soldiers seeming to headshot me every five seconds. As well as it seems like my team AI was just running in suiciding, with me but even with all of this the campaign was short and should have been expanded on.

Gameplay Rating: 8/10

The gameplay is well designed and holds its ground with other FPS games but the online community is as toxic as ever and takes away from the online experience. However, fans of the Classic Zombie Mode will be excited to hear that it is made by Treyarch, which made the original zombies as well as those for Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. The zombies mode for Call of Duty: WWII in my opinion really outdid some of the other versions of zombie games. It’s is action packed and has a new loadout system allowing for some perks like a free PHD Flopper perk, or free Mule Kick perk. The mode adds new objectives and a new wonder weapon the Tesla gun. This mode has replay value as new DLC gets added to the game and for the people that like to get higher rounds

Lasting appeal 6 out of 10: While the game has a great story but it has very little replay value in the campaign unless you would like to spend sixty dollars on a game just for multiplayer and a zombies mode that has a lot of replay value. I think that if you do want to get this game you should really think about whether or not a game is buying just for a multiplayer mode and a zombies mode.

Overall Grade: 6 out of 10

While the graphics engine is beautiful, it’s very expensive to pay $60 for a game to just play a campaign that offers very little in terms of replay value, and a zombie mode that can get very repetitive, as well as a multiplayer mode that has very little to offer as well as the current stability of the servers.
