Sonic The Hedgehog movie review

Luke Sepulveda, Staff Writer

When I went to see Sonic the Hedgehog, I went in with high expectations because of my love of the game.

This was a mistake because it made my initial impression of the movie comparatively negative to other reactions I’ve seen on the Internet. But in hindsight, I find myself wanting to watch the movie again simply because I do love Sonic. But enough of that, let’s get into this non-spoiler quick review, shall we?

The movie overall was fun, sweet and one of the best things to come out of Sonic in the past decade. However, it suffered from a few problems: most notably was the pacing. There were several instances where certain moments in the movie came out of nowhere and didn’t hit as hard as they should due to how quickly the movie was moving.

The pacing issues are a result of another problem: the movie’s run time: an incredibly short one hour and 40 minutes. Now I know they had to play it safe because they didn’t know if the movie would do well but regardless I feel like the movie suffered because of that.

However, as I stated before the movie is very fun. Jim Carey is gold. Sonic is portrayed very well. The plot has a very nice message and the CGI is superb.
