This years Akins tennis team, currently at 1-2 in season play, is seeking to improve from last year by working on their technique and approach.

For many players on the team, tennis has not been their forte in the past, but they hope to change that by the end of this season.

With all the hard work put in during practices and on their own time, the team has gradually improved from the very start.

“The only way to get better is to stay consistent in your work and always give 100 percent on the court,” senior Eric Kanthavong said.

The team has preformed well as of late, and many players have stepped up and taken leadership roles.

They have outperformed themselves from previous years and have gone above and beyond expectations, which has made the team even better.

“We have shown improvement from past years, our juniors and seniors have been guiding the younger unproven players towards having a winning attitude,” coach Ashley Gahan said.

The confidence and energy has rubbed off on the other players and has brought a winning mentality to the team.

“Players like Bobby Otte, Duey Pham, Alyssa Concepcion and Ezzy Rosales have provided a spark to the team and have made us better,” Gahan said.

The team looks forward in the coming weeks to win more games and end on a high note for the fall semester of the tennis season before it starts back up for its second half in the spring semester.
