Austin ISD Board appoints Tina Salazar as Akins principal

The Austin ISD school board voted to appoint Tina Salazar as the permanent principal of Akins High School at their board meeting Monday night.

Salazar served as interim principal following former principal Brandi Hosack’s departure from her position at the end of last year.

“I’m so excited,” ABLLE Academy Coordinator Melissa Contreras said. “I can’t wait for the great opportunities that (Salazar) is going to provide to our students.”

In addition to serving as interim principal, Salazar was an assistant principal for the Social Services Academy and English department head chair. Read the district press release below:

AISD Board of Trustees Approves Principal for Akins

The Austin ISD Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Tina Salazar to serve as principal of Akins High at its Oct. 29 meeting.

Salazar most recently served as the interim principal of Akins where she has also been an English department chair, instructional lead teacher and coach. She has six years of administrative experience and served in the classroom for a total of 21 years.

Salazar has a bachelor’s degree in English writing from St. Edward’s University and a master’s degree in education from Concordia University.
