SpongeBob SquarePants has entertained viewers for over 20 years, and the best SpongeBob episodes carried the show to five Daytime Emmy Awards; however, it’s just not the same as it used to be.
SpongeBob SquarePants came to Nickelodeon in 1999 and became one of the most popular cartoons with crazy situations and unique characters, delivering something for kids and adults alike. SpongeBob continues over two decades of entering cartoons and shows no signs of slowing down.
I want to talk about how SpongeBob had its downfall. Don’t get me wrong there are some episodes in Season 9 that I do like, but after that, it goes downhill. First, let’s talk about The Patrick Star Show. I have so many questions.
I think Patrick is a little too dumb to have his show, and I just looked up the intro for The Patrick Show. When did Patrick have a sister who is a squid? Why do his parents look like that, I remember in season 2, episode 17 when Patrick’s “parents” went to his house but they realized that they didn’t even have a son to begin with.
Now I find it weird that all these years SpongeBob shows that Patrick doesn’t have any family, and now in 2021 he has a whole family. It doesn’t make sense to me. Sencod. Why is New SpongeBob just a lot more weird than it used to be, with the exaggerated humor and making their faces more exaggerated just making it corny and not funny like SpongeBob used to be?
Thirdly, they make SpongeBob a little more scary. There is one episode in season 6 called House Fancy, where Squidward toenail comes off. This is the kinda only episode where they show some kind of “blood”. But in New SpongeBob, the faces they are making are a little scary to look at. It’s just not the same.
Now that I named most of the ways SpongeBob had it has fallen downhill. I want to talk about the good of SpongeBob. Because SpongeBob still has amazing episodes and will forever be my favorite cartoon.
SpongeBob is one of my top 3 franchises. I have to have my favorite episodes. To Jellyfish Hunter, Something Smells, Gary a Bath, Ripped Pants, and many more amazing and iconic episodes SpongeBob has to offer to its community. Now I will explain why these episodes are my favorite.
Jellyfish Hunter: Season 2, Episode 19
SpongeBob creates a special jellyfish jelly Krabby patty that instantly becomes a customer favorite. Mr. Krabs immediately explained the new product and asked SpongeBob to catch as many jellyfish as possible. SpongeBob meets the blue jellyfish, and he names it No Name.
No Name plays a special role in this episode with him avoiding being caught by SpongeBob, after being sent by Mr. Krabs to catch every jellyfish for their jelly, the population of Jellyfish Fields is depleted. SpongeBob is followed by No Name when returning to his house, allowing the blue jellyfish to capture him and lure SpongeBob with a Krabby Patty made from his jelly. Fortunately, No Name doesn’t wish revenge on SpongeBob.
No Name instead brings SpongeBob to a factory and shows him the inside where every jellyfish SpongeBob has caught is being brutally toured. No Name and SpongeBob storm into the factory to stop Mr. Krabs and free the remaining captured jellyfish who proceed to sting Mr. Krabs for revenge. As thanks for SpongeBob, No Name allows SpongeBob to catch him, then No Name is renamed to “Friend”. The two shake hands but end up stinging SpongeBob in the process.
Something Smells: Season 2, Episode 2
The episode opens up as SpongeBob wakes up one morning, realizing that it’s Sunday, and decides to have an ice cream “sundae” for breakfast. However, he sees he has no ice cream, so he instead creates a new type of sundae made from onions, ketchup, and the contents of a nearly dead-potted peanut plant. Unknowst to SpongeBob, eating the sundae results in intensely bad breath.
Later, Patrick visits SpongeBob, who has resigned to become a hermit and tells Patrick to just go and run away from him like everyone else. Patrick then encourages him to take pride in his ugliness. It works, and SpongeBob’s confidence grows. They decide to go and see a movie at the Reef Cinema to celebrate. As SpongeBob and Patrick take their seats, all of the movie-goers are disgusted and die once they smell SpongeBob’s breath, which angers Patrick and sends him into a tirade. Patrick forces the other viewers to look at SpongeBob, with every word SpongeBob speaks the viewers panic and flee, soon leaving no one in the auditorium. With SpongeBob and Patrick realizing that it was not their appearance that was not the problem, the two begin to run around shouting, “We stink!”, causing their noxious breath to melt down the theater.
Gary Takes A Bath: Season 2, Episode 10
SpongeBob realizes that it is time for Gary’s bath, but the snail does not. SpongeBob, wary of the battle he is in for, tries various methods. SpongeBob tries to get Gary into the bath by strapping a bomb to his chest and telling Gary that it will explode in three seconds if he doesn’t take a bath. Gary doesn’t care, so SpongeBob blows up.
Another way SpongeBob tries to get Gary into the bath is by playing leapfrog with him, so he can toss him into the bathtub. Instead,d SpongeBob misses and breaks Gary’s shell. He also tries to bribe Gary with a dollar bill, but Mr. Krabs appears in a tub and takes the dollar. At the end of SpongeBob trying to convince Gary to take a bath, Gary ends up making SpongeBob take a bath instead.
Ripped Pants: Season 1, Episode 2
The last one has to be one of the most iconic episodes of all of SpongeBob.
One day, SpongeBob and Sandy are having a good time a Goo Lagoon. Lary comes by and asks Sandy and SpongeBob if they want to do some weights. They both accept, even though SpongeBob is not really in the mood to do weights. Larry and Sandy do several impressive weight stunts, while SpongeBob tries to pick up a stick with two marshmallows on the sides. He accidentally rips his pants. This makes everyone laugh, prompting SpongeBob to continue making ripped-pants jokes after a while though SpongeBob jokes start to annoy the people of Goo Lagoon.
At some point, SpongeBob fakes drowning to make a ripped pants joke. This proves to be too far, as it causes everyone to get disgusted with SpongeBob and continue playing without him. By the end of the episode, SpongeBob sings the song “Ripped Pants”. At the end of that, Sandy forgives SpongeBob, and Lary asks SpongeBob to sign his underwear.
