School spirit, dancers and crazy costumes will be in demand  on the last class day before the Thanksgiving break while the campus hopes to stage its first lip dub video.

Lip-Dubbing is a type of video that combines lip synching and audio dubbing to make a music video.

Largely popular in high schools, they usually showcase the campus while kids in costumes take center stage in front of the camera or dance in the background, has become a popular craze all on its own.

Seniors Alek Peschansky, Yohel Galindo, and Kevin Gutierrez have taken interest and full leadership when it comes to bringing the lip-dub craze to Akins.

“The video has been in production since last year but now that we have the opportunity to actually do it, we’re going full swing,” Peschansky said.

Organizers are working out a system with principal Daniel Girard to gain permission for various student groups to be released from class to help with the filming process. Group sponsors have been asked to attend Lip Dub planning meetings so they can plan and develop lists of students who are eligible to participate.

Lip dub planners have chosen “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit and “Feel So Close” by Calvin Harris for the lip dub. The video is estimated to be total eight minutes long, starting from downstairs green hall, around the school, through the cafeteria, gym, and finishing in the theater. Student groups will soon be asked to submit requests for locations in the school for filming.

The main purposes for the lip-dub are to have fun, increase the school’s spirit and

Organizers have some suggestions on how to make the lip dub successful.

Confetti, costumes, balloons, and others based on suggestion are highly recommended. At its core, the whole event is a huge team effort. To pull something off as big as this, it involves teamwork between the students, teachers, administrators, and the overall patience of everybody as the video is being filmed.

“I would very much like if everything goes as planned, and that everyone can have a good time and enjoy themselves as we get live and make Akins history,” Galindo said.

The only restrictions for the video are: no inappropriate gestures, no being uncooperative, no gang related material including costume choices, and overall no angering the staff or anything that could potentially halt the production of the video.

As the filming date approaches, organizers are working hard to make sure everything goes as planned. They said they hope that the lip dub helps bolster the school’s image.

Info cards about the official lip dub event will be handed out to group sponsors during Blue and Gold Night.
