Starting March 23, Austin ISD will provide curbside meal sites and bus stop delivery sites that are open Monday – Friday.

Curbside sites, including those at Akins High School and Perez Elementary, will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Austin ISD Food Services will prepare and provide meals for children under the age of 19 and their parents or caregivers at more than 70 locations while school is closed due to COVID-19 precautions. AISD is working in collaboration with the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Curbside meals will be offered at more than 15 sites. Austin ISD school buses will deliver meals throughout the community at more than 50 locations.  Sites were chosen based on 50 percent or more students receiving meal benefits.

Each child may receive one breakfast and one lunch meal, daily.  Through the community-supported Austin ISD Crisis Support Fund, parents and caregivers accompanying their children may receive daily breakfast and lunch meals. Children, parents and caregivers may also receive a weekend pack on Fridays, to help provide additional food security. Children, parents and caregivers must be present to receive meals.  Food is available until it runs out.

Meals will feature foods that are cooked and prepared by staff in Austin ISD kitchens.  These meals will be chilled and served cold to be taken home and reheated.  The healthy meals served will include protein, grains, fruits and vegetables. The option of vegetarian meals, milk and compostable cutlery will be available.

Families are recommended to complete the meal survey for their preferred curbside or delivery site. The survey is not required, however, doing so will help ensure food does not run out.  Surveys will be open Sunday-Thursday from 5 p.m. to noon, to help with meal planning.

School Bus Meal Delivery Sites:
Meals will be delivered Monday-Friday at the sites and approximate times listed on the Austin ISD Meals website.  Austin ISD school buses will visit each of the sites for 15-20 minutes for meal distribution.  Families are encouraged to arrive at the sites 10 minutes prior to the bus arrival.  Children, parents and caregivers will pick up their meals from the school bus, lining up 6 feet from the door of the bus and 6 feet from each other.

Families can use the WheresTheBus app to track the progress of the school bus delivering the meals. Or families can click the link for their corresponding stop listed below. There is no need to download or sign up for the app.

Families are advised to stay in their cars and not enter buildings during meal pick up. Families do not need to be in a car to get the meals. Families who come by walking/biking/transit will still be able to receive food outside the campuses.
