Akins principal, Mr. Herbin, sent the following email to the Akins community to calm parents and students.

Dear Akins ECHS Community,

At about 2:15 p.m. today, Austin ISD Police arrested a juvenile student on charges of making a terroristic threat and online impersonation. Both charges are felonies.

After a thorough investigation, officers located the student and confiscated items they believe to have been used in connection with the threats made against our campus over the past two days.

At no time did the student have access to any weapons, and at no time were our students and staff in danger.

I know that the past two days have been stressful. We will continue to provide counseling to any staff or student who requests it and will have additional counselors on hand next week.

Please take a moment to remind your student that all threats are taken seriously and will be investigated. The safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority.

Thank you for your patience, vigilance and cooperation the past two days. We will continue to work together to keep our campus and each other safe.
