Akins is a very creative school, whether it’s painting, drawing or ceramics,
there’s always creativity flowing throughout the campus.

Students have been preparing for the upcoming art UIL competition known
as the Visual Arts Scholastic Event or VASE, where they could win medals and
receive recognition for their work and for the school.

“I’m really nervous to see what the judges are going to think,” said senior Flor
Lopez. “I would be very happy and proud if I got a medal.”

VASE also allows art students the opportunity to meet other students from
around the state and come together to appreciate others different art styles and all
of the hard work they put into their artwork.

“It’s going to be exciting to see all the people come together for art and see
all the different styles of art and how people portray different things and ideas,”
sophomore Jorge Mendez said.
